I have just completed a wonderful semester of French learning with Calie through Alliance Française de Washington, DC. It has been many, many years since I have studied French, and I was quite nervous about starting up again, but Calie made it a joy. I always looked forward to our class, and I found her teaching technique so helpful, encouraging and productive. I learned so much from her! I cannot wait for my next opportunity to take another classes with her.

Calie was my French teacher for one semester at the IBD. She is a very kind person who analyzed my level as student and personalized the course according with my areas of opportunity. She helped me to develop grammar skills, performance in reading and writing, and gain confidence in speaking French.

Learning French with Calie was such a pleasant and effective experience! I had learned French many years ago, and Calie was effective in bringing back and refresh my language skills by virtue of building an engaging learning environment. Calie is an engaging teacher and an excellent facilitator of group sessions, she uses different resources and media to keep our sessions lively and to ensure everyone’s active participation. I have had the pleasure of taking French classes with Calie for the past year, and they are always engaging, well-structured, and fun. I worked with Calie for almost two years on conversational French and genuinely looked forward to each weekly session. Calie is exceptionally engaging and encouraging as a teacher. She keeps things interesting with her lively approach- discussing any number of topics from current events in France to cultural traditions to real-life situations. I have been studying under Calie for 3 years now and I’ve advanced immensely thanks to her! She is incredibly dedicated, has great control of all the tools she uses in our virtual classes and it is clear that she cares about her students advancing. She also makes sure that we all incorporate new vocabulary and content that is specific to our jobs (and we don’t all do the same jobs) which is great. Thanks for all the efforts and commitment!

Calie is a fantastic French teacher! She is incredibly engaging, supportive, and always finds interesting, new ways to encourage her students to practice what was learned. Her class is fast paced on the appropriate level and uses a great variety of materials (textbooks, graphics, videos, group discussions, etc.). I studied with her for a year at the advanced level as part of the World Bank’s group language training – in a virtual format due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Calie surprised me every session with new ideas how to keep the virtual class engaging and interactive. I highly recommend her as French language instructor.delivered the best to me. Il y a 2 ans, j’ai décidé de déclencher mon français et essayer de passer le DALF C1. Pour me préparer, j’ai commencé un cours en groupe avec Calie (ou Mme. Rerodo de Jong). Avec beaucoup de compétence, elle m’a enseigné les nuances et vraiment perfectionné ma connaissance de la langue de Molière, et habillement géré un groupe de élèves. Un an après, une deuxième idée : passer le DALF C2. Une fois que pas beaucoup de gens se lance à cette folle proposition, j’ai pris un forfait de cours particuliers avec Calie (ou Mme. Rerodo de Jong). Comme avant, j’ai bien réussi l’examen. En toute vérité, je ne crois pas au niveau de fluidité en français au lequel que j’avais arrivé. Je dois ça à elle. Mille mercis.
 
Two years ago, I decided to perfect my French and try to pass the DALF C1. To prepare, I started a group course with Calie (or Mrs. Rerodo de Jong). With great skill, she taught me the nuances and really perfected my knowledge of the language of Molière, and skillfully managed a group of students. A year later, a second idea: to pass the DALF C2. Since not many people jump at such crazy proposition, I signed up for a private class package with Calie (or Mrs. Rerodo de Jong). As before, I passed the exam with great scores. I have trouble believing the level of fluency in French I had reached. I owe that to her. Many thanks indeed. 

J’étudie le français avec Calie depuis 2020. Je prends des cours individuels et collectifs. C’est une excellente professeure. Elle propose des cours intéressants et ludiques et, petit à petit, me pousse à progresser en grammaire, en expression écrite et en expression orale sur des sujets courants. Grâce à son soutien constant, je me sens en confiance et je peux rejoindre d’autres groupes de conversation.

Au début, je ne comprenais que quelques mots et expressions français. Maintenant, je lis des articles et des livres en français, j’écoute des émissions en comprenant et je parle individuellement et en groupe. Malheureusement, je parle avec un accent anglais, mais je suis convaincu que cela s’améliorera grâce à mes études à Calie. C’est mon objectif actuel, en plus de progresser en écriture et en grammaire.

Calie is an excellent teacher to beginners in French as well as those with advanced skills in the French language. It is really fun to learn during our lessons each week. We divide our time between discussing current topics, reviewing my writings and grammar, all the time she encourages me and pushes me to learn more in a relaxed and comfortable manner. I have been studying with her for 5 years and have progressed from knowing only a few French words and phrases to be comfortable speaking with her and in groups and I can now read in French as well as listen and comprehend French news stories and reports. I plan to continue studying with her and also want to improve my French pronunciation which I am sure will improve with her lessons

I’ve had the pleasure of having Calie as my French B2 instructor for the past year and in the months that I’ve been taking her classes, I’ve noticed a vast improvement in my speaking and writing abilities. Our classes are well rounded with good mixture of oral practice, grammar, and culture, and it has helped me speak french with colleagues who are native speakers. I would highly recommend Calie as an instructor for anyone looking to improve their french at any level.

Language classes with Calie are always fun and interactive, with a good balance of theory and practice! I studied French with her for about a year, and improved a lot during this time.
